Perceval & Knight Foundation currently engages in a school feeding project called “Keep the Kids in School” aimed at addressing the nutritional and educational needs of vulnerable children in Nigeria and empowering communities. We target nursery and primary pupils in severely disadvantaged areas, providing at schools’ free meals, school uniforms, books, needed infrastructures, and support for their well-being. Our school feeding project encourage all children to attend school and girls make up over 50% of the children in school across our project. For a sustainable future, we aim to give hope and support not only to pupils but also to teachers and communities through social, educational, and economic empowerment programmes.
Poverty often makes parents keep their children out of school to help around the house, work, or even be married off. By offering a daily school meal, we provide an incentive for parents to send their children to school, which ultimately ensure they are not hungry and malnourished.
In September 2023, we commenced the project and currently serves over 100 pupils in 2 schools in Plateau State namely L.E.A Kunyi Katse in Jos North LGA and L.E.A Zot-Badin in Jos South LGA. To successful combat malnutrition in these pupils, they are fed Tom Brown PLUS by PachaMama Foods, and this has within a year boosted school attendance, retention, brain development, and learning enthusiasm amongst the pupils. Each child is measured on the first week of resumption each term and the end of the term to provide data on their health improvement with the support of healthcare practitioners. The project also has had a wider impact on the local communities near the school as the grains/ingredients used for their meals are purchased from the local home-grown farmers and cooks are gotten from the same communities which provides them with a sustainable income.
Our future plans include expanding our work to more schools in Plateau State and across other states in the Northern part of Nigeria; providing school uniforms, learning books, and other key needs for pupils and teachers; and developing skills acquisition and empowerment programmes for vulnerable adults in these communities.
Support our nutrition, education, and empowerment programs (e.g. meals, educational materials, infrastructures, uniforms, skill acquisition trainings). Donating even a small amount could make a big difference.
